There is no single price for a custom water bottle, and any factory that gives you one without questions is guessing. The unit cost is built from a handful of levers. Once you understand them, you can quote your own retail price with confidence and spot where a supplier is padding. Here is how the number is actually built.
1. Material and Construction
This is the biggest lever. Single-wall plastic is cheapest, then single-wall stainless, then double-wall vacuum stainless at the top. Capacity matters too — more steel, more cost. A 500ml vacuum flask and a 750ml plastic sports bottle are completely different starting points.
2. Order Quantity (MOQ Tiers)
Our MOQ is 500 pieces per design, and unit price steps down at 1,000, 3,000 and 5,000+. The cleanest way to lower your unit cost is volume per single SKU — five colours of one model at 1,000 each prices much better than the same total split across many unrelated items, because each setup, mould and colour change has a fixed cost.
3. Branding Method
Silk-screen and laser engraving are economical and great for one or two colours. Full-wrap UV and heat-transfer printing cost more but allow photographic, multi-colour artwork. The number of print positions and colours moves the price more than buyers expect.
4. Packaging
A polybag is nearly free; a custom-printed colour gift box with insert and sleeve adds real cost per unit. Retail-ready packaging, barcodes and hang tags are worth it for shelf and Amazon — just budget for them separately so they do not surprise you.
5. Tooling (Only for ODM)
If you want a brand-new shape that does not exist, there is a one-time mould/tooling cost, amortised across your order. Choosing an existing model with custom colour and print avoids tooling entirely — this is how most first orders keep costs down.
6. Shipping
Sea freight is the norm. A 20ft container holds roughly 10,000–18,000 bottles depending on size and packaging, so per-unit freight drops sharply with volume. We quote FOB Yongkang / Ningbo / Shanghai by default and can arrange door-to-door.
